Moving on from the previous week’s discussion on airway management skills, this week’s tip of the week will be on cardiac skills or emergency management of cardiac issues. Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when the heart develops an arrhythmia that causes it to stop beating. This is different than a heart attack, where the heart usually continues to beat but blood flow to the heart is blocked.

This is different than a heart attack, where the heart usually continues to beat but blood flow to the heart is blocked.

A person who suffered from cardiac arrest will die within a few minutes without medical intervention. Patient outcomes depend on the time medical intervention has been initiated and on the skills of the first responder who provided initial cardiac arrest management.

Do you drink coffee, tea or cola sodas? The vast majority of us do and in some cases, maybe for most of us, the caffeine content is the main reason for drinking them. In moderation, caffeine is safe. But most people don’t realize that caffeine can be quite toxic in large doses.
